My brother and sister live in Florida and miss Sammy's Pizza so much that I bought frozen pizzas and sent them in dry ice to them for Christmas. The mailing charges were 3 times the price of the pizzas--but they were so happy to have Sammy's pizza--they expect it every year now!!

I have never had a better pizza than Sammy's. There is just something about their amazing sauce, cheese, and dough combo that tantalizes my taste-buds. Anthony Summers is a truly talented pizza maker who has perfected the art like none before him, and Samuel Hise delivers pizzas faster and with more swag than any other delivery boy since the birth of Italy itself. The only thing that would make the Sammy's experience more enjoyable is if they hired Brandon Kongsjord as a pizza maker.

We enjoyed ourselves there, that was the place to be on Friday nights where teenagers felt special and ate great pizza. I had decided to look and see if you all were still around. I have great memories there. I was born and raised in Eau Claire. I lived on Forest St. I am 59 yrs. young and glad you all are still going strong. Thanks 4 the memories

Jeannie who served us and Lee who helped Jennie create the masterpieces that were our pizzas!I travel all over the country and eating is a pastime of sorts. Jeannie and Lee both promised us great pizza and they weren't wrong! Sammy's has to be the best pizza I have eaten and while I am working near a Sammy's you can bet I'll be a return customer. The service at the Winona Sammy's was great. I want to say a big thank you to Jeannie and Lee and I will see you a few more times before I leave town.To whoever reads this....try it and I promise you that you will be a Sammy's fan forever..I am! My friend, Mikelle, and I started a tradition where we go to Sammy's, our favorite restaurant in the world, and catch up with each other. We make our best memories there, and our usual order is an appetizer of hot wings (no bleu cheese or ranch) and a medium pizza, half cheese, half pepperoni. We sit in the same booth, Louisa's dress shop and we have the best time. If Sammy's didn't exist, we don't know what we'd do. Thank you, Sammy's Pizza!

However, in 1986 my wife and I acquired a lake cabin near Cumberland, Wisconsin, where we rediscovered another Sammy's Pizza Restaurant for our enjoyment over the next 20 years. We are now retired and live in Duluth and enjoy Sammy's in West Duluth.

In 1963, I moved to Colorado and had them Air Shipped overnight and also the same when I moved to San Diego. I have been back to Duluth over 65 times and most of the reason was to visit and of course have my Sammy's Pep and Kosher salami.

We have been closely watching the news and our thoughts and prayers are with all the wonderful people in Minot. We would often stop and eat a Taco pizza at Sammy's and found a wonderful little shop down the street (Home Sweet Home). That was February 22, 1968 and we were married April 4, 1970. Next month we will celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary and we still celebrate every year by going to Sammy's Pizza in West Duluth for our favorite pizza and reminisce. The pizza was out of this world. The crust was just as I remember eating in Italy. Each topping was distinct. The fresh mushrooms really added to the overall taste. Your sausage must be home made, again very good. I think I found myself a place to enjoy my pizzas in the future. Service was excellent. All in all, very good food and good service.

I was so excited to get in I forgot to set the parking brake on my truck. Halfway through my first plate, I looked out and my truck had rolled halfway down the parking lot blocking the entrance. Mike even knows my favorite pizza, The Crew Special and makes sure he gets one up on the buffet for me. The three of us raced to the end to see who would get the last piece. There were many races between the three of us. But what I remember most, is that when we left that first time, Dave reminded Greg and I that we OWED him a Sammy’s treat! Over the years that followed, I have never objected to that request.

I didn't realize how much my family did enjoy the buffet and especially the creamy cabbage vegetable soup. My husband is on the volunteer fire department, so when my kids watched the fire engines fly by our house in 2008 to go and fight the fire at Sammy's Pizza, my kids were watching anxiously out the window. They soon started to cry and my oldest was particularly sad. She turned to me and with huge tears in her eyes she says, "Mom, I will never be able to have my favorite soup anymore." Now days, if I head East to visit my girlfriend's family, we go so far as to stop for Sammy's first so I can start my trip out right. At 63 I'm still a Sammy's addict, although diet restrictions keep me from eating as much of it as I want to. But what do doctors know. Family tradition. When I was going with my husband he took me to Sammy's west Duluth for my first every pizza. My family didn't go out to eat or to Duluth. We didn't have a Cloquet Sammy’s at the time. We later got our parents to like pizza and go with us. When the kids started to arrive we would call (long distances at the time) to order pizza to go, get the kids in the station wagon with pop and drive to pick up the pizza. We would then eat it on the way home. The kids always enjoyed that. When our oldest daughter moved to the east coast she looked forward to coming home for Sammy’s. When they moved to the cities she would come home with a cooler and ice to pick up frozen pizzas to take home. The grandkids have always enjoyed going with us to get the pizza the same way our kids did or to go to eat at the West Duluth Sammy’s. When we go there we tell the waitress to let Pam know that "the little old lady from Cloquet was there". We have grandkids from 28 to 3 years. When we take the 4 and 3 year old to Cloquet Sammy’s they tease us about having the kids. When we go with out them we are told me missed them by 6 hours as that is where they like to eat lunch or they said "What no kids?" We now have twin great grandsons that are 1 year old so within the next year when they have more teeth we will be going to Sammy’s with them for the fifth generation of enjoying SAMMYS PIZZA. Keep up the good work and see you soon.

Remington loved the pizza more than anything he'd ever tasted in his life. One evening I called in my usual order to be delivered, Sammy's Special-family sized. When the pizza guy arrived, I placed the pizza on the coffee table and proceeded to write the check to pay for the pizza. All of a sudden the pizza guy started pointing behind me mumbling excitedly. I turned around and there was Remington, our pizza lovin hound dog, eating the pizza-box and all- piping hot! We would always save him a few pieces once it was cool enough for him to eat. We'd put the empty box on the deck floor and Remington would hold it down with one paw while he licked it clean! He turned his nose up to frozen store bought pizza. Something about Sammy's, he loved it as much as the rest of the family!
Another evening, when Remington was home with a sitter, Sammy's Pizza guy was called upon to deliver another mouth watering pizza to our door. He went to the side door, unknown to the sitter, and told her to shut the kitchen door before she accepted the pizza, otherwise the pizza lovin hound would end up with her pizza! I'll bet that delivery guy still remembers Remington, the Pizza lovin Beagle from Lakeside.

A few years ago when I was picking my 5 year old daughter up at preschool at around 11:30 or so, she told me she smelt pizza. I in return told her they are probably having pizza in the lunchroom. She then replied it smells like "Sammy's" I told her "well they aren't serving Sammy's in the lunchroom, and when we turned the corner of the hallway there was a man carrying boxes of Sammy's pizza. I laughed and laughed. She still can smell Sammy's pizza a mile away!!

We love Sammy's....it is the best!!!!! A few years ago, we went to Sammy's and ordered a large family sized pizza. We had one other person with us. When we ordered, we said "when that one comes out, make another one just like it." As we were finishing the first one, the waitress came out carrying a box. My husband said "What is that?????" She said "It's your other pizza....to go." "Oh, no," my husband said...."I'm going to eat that one right now too." We got a few strange looks, but enjoyed all that pizza.

When I was a child growing up in Woodland in Duluth, Sammy's Pizza was a rare and very special treat. Sammy's Pizza in Woodland was housed inside a bowling alley, and the only part of the restaurant that I could ever see as a child was a rectangular shaped window high above my head. I would look up and see light and steam streaming through, and smell the most wonderful aromas escaping from the window. As I watched, as if by magic, the finished pizza would be passed through the enchanted window, and we would be that much closer to our pizza paradise. The pizzas were wrapped up like a present inside of paper pizza bags. They were stapled shut to contain the wonderful heat and flavor of the thin, crispy crust, the unique sauce and the melted cheese. I would ride home in the car with the pizza balanced in my lap, the heat of the cardboard bottom warming my cold legs as we drove. At last we would be home and my father would slide out the pizza from the bag, and place it in the place of honor centered on the kitchen table. The first bite... Ahhhh - pizza nirvana!

In the 50s I serviced Sammy's car when he lived in Lakeside, Duluth. My big sister took me to Sammy's downtown Duluth in '53 for my 1st pizza. Went to high school in the 50s just up the street from Sammy's and we always hung out in the booths at Sammy's throughout high school. Moved from Duluth in the sixties but always bring home many frozen Sammy's when we get to MN. Sammy's is the best!! Last saw Sammy and his wife dining at the Eau Claire store not long before he died. He was a neat guy and made a pizza that will never be topped. Also patronized Sammy's in Lakeside and more recently in Brooklyn Park.
Thanks for the awesome-never-changing pizzas. My favorite is the House Special or sausage w/extra cheese.

We live in Lakeside and regularly order take-out from the Sammy's on 47th and Superior St. YUM! About two years ago my mother-in-law was visiting from southern MN. She stopped at the Sammy's in Lakeside, bought some pies to bring to our home and we had a fabulous dinner. On her way out of town the next morning she realized her wallet was missing. She retraced her steps and found the wallet at Sammy's. Everything was intact except her money. Being greatful for her credit cards, drivers license etc. She went home. We were sorry for her cash loss so my husband called the manager, Jim. Jim was concerned and asked his employees about the returned wallet. They knew nothing of its disappearance or return but did notice some children hanging out that day around the store. Jim happened to know the children and their families. He called the parents and got my mother-in-law's money and returned it to her. WOW! We continue to order from Sammy's and when my mother-in-law comes to visit her first suggestion for dinner is "let's order pizza from Sammy's!"
To the Sammy's staff....this story is not to discredit the children and families involved. (Kids will be kids.) Yet, it is to give credit to local shop owners who care. Thanks, Deni

After joining the Air Force, I was stationed at Minot AFB ND and was delighted to see that Sammy's was located both in downtown Minot and a delivery on the base. I ate pizza and broasted chicken from one or the other just about every week. When I returned to the Duluth area after 3 tours in SE Asia during the Vietnam War, I started eating Sammy's again and haven't stopped.

In 2003 We moved to Duluth from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada. We rented for the first 11 months and finally were able to build a new home in the summer of 2004. When we moved in we received a welcome basket from the local community and in this basket was an offer for a free pizza at Sammys Pizza. We had heard from many friends that the Pizza to try was a Sammys Pizza. So Cheryl and I eventually went down to try out the free Pizza offer. We went to the small diner on Superior Street in Lakeside and sat down at one of the quaint little tables. We were greeted by a friendly waiter and gave him our "welcome to the community" coupon. The waiter brought us something to drink and told us to relax. When the pizza arrived we tried a small bite and decided that it was well worth the trip and thoroughly enjoyed the Pizza. Now the city we came from has a large Italian population who know how to make pizza. We had enjoyed many quality italian pizzas there. But Sammys pizza was the first thin crust pizza we had tried and we sure did enjoy it. Now when some one asks me where we should go to eat, one of the first places that comes to mind is Sammys Pizza. It is usually the west end Sammys that I take them to because of the delicious lunch buffet they offer there. Thanks for the experience and we look forward to enjoying more of your delicious Pizza.

Growing up my family always had "pizza night" on Sundays. We would pick out what ingredients we wanted on our pizza and make our own. When they were done we would get out the T.V. trays and sit in front of the television watching Lawrence Welk eating our pizza. One evening my dad said let's try a pizza out tonight--that was very unusual as we lived out in the country on a farm and driving into town usually only happened one time a week when we had to go in and get groceries. We were all so excited!!! We got on our best "town" clothes and drove to Sammy's. What a treat it was to have pizza out and WOW how wonderful it tasted!!! We have been going there every Sunday since. My mother and father have recently both passed away but I cannot help myself to keep the family tradition going strong so every Sunday I pack up the kids and grandchildren and head to Sammy's for their great tasting pizza and we are still going strong every Sunday!!! Thank you Samy's for making such great pizza and giving our family a tradition to live by. :-)

My Sammy's Pizza story begins in the early 1960's. Friday night was a special night. Dad and Mom allowed my brother and me to stay up late to watch Sea Hunt reruns on TV and they would order a Sammy's pizza to go from the West Duluth store--always saussage, mushroom and green pepper--my favorite to this day. I always went with my dad to pick it up and I loved to watch the guys put the dough through the rolling machine, twirl it in their hands and toss it in the air. Instead of a cardboard box, they wrapped the pizza in a thin papper bag which I would hold securely on my lap during the ride home. The aroma of the pizza would fill the car and I could feel the warmth on my legs. At home, we would devour the little squares washing them down with our bottles of Coke - another Friday night treat. Through the years, Sammy's pizza has been a staple. When my kids would come home from college and bring their friends along, we always had to introduce them to Sammy's pizza. My dad passed away 2 months ago and he was able to enjoy his favorite pizza (now kosher, mushroom and green pepper) a week before he died. I even mentioned his love of Sammy's Pizza in his eulogy! After the funeral with the whole family home, we called the West Duluth Sammy's pizza once again. Dad would have wanted it that way! Thanks!

He has been stationed at several U.S Bases (Pensecola, Fla, Seymour-Johnson (Goldsboro, N.C.) and is presently stationed at Lakenheath AFB in the United Kingdom. Each time he calls & tells us he's coming home, he says he's coming home for things in this order: To have Sammy's Pizza, to see hios parents (us), and to see his friends. He & his wife just love Sammy's Pizza. He & his family have just come to Minnesota to Baptize his youngest daughrer (2 months old). He is coming to Duluth March 24th.
He is now in Mpls, where the Baptism will be held on 3/22/10. He & family flew into Mpls. on Wednesday, 3/17 and their first stop after a long flight was for Sammy's Pizza. Even though they were exhausted, they weren't too tired for a visit to Sammy's. We'll be going to West Duluth Sammy's this next week for pizza first, then he'll visit us & his friends (in that order!). He is a 1996 grad of Denfeld H.S. and as a family, we always went to Sammy's at least once a week for the world's best pizza.
I must say that if he could, he'd fly his jet over for Sammy's on a weekly basis just for a taste of the pizza and to bring some back, tho it might not make it with 6 in-air re-fuelings on the way. They (and we, his parents love Sammy's Pizza, the world's best!!!

My grandfather used to work for the mines in and around Keewatin, MN. Way back when, Mr. Leonard Morgan (My grandfather) employed a young Sam Perrella in the mines. Mr. Perrella was (fortunately for pizza lovers) caught pilfering from the mine company and was subsequently relieved from his position. After this misfortune, Mr. Perrella took the last of his money and started to research pizza in Chicago, among other locations. The result of his misfortune was high level research and development which produced the foundation of a unique offering that provided the Iron Range with a new delicacy that would soon become the Legend that is now Sammyâ•?s Pizza. Sammy did quite well for himself and actually stated to my grandfather, much later in life, that he was thankful for the termination of his mine job, as it allowed him to pursue his passion. Our family has continued to embrace Sammyâ•?s for generations now and the pizza is as good as it has ever been! We thank Mr. Sam Perrella for having the courage to pursue this great opportunity and provide the local areas with a well-loved, tasty and perfectly square pieces of pizza. Keep up the good work- Sammyâ•?s always has a unique place in our hearts!!!

When I was a little girl my parents would sometimes drive from Nashwauk to Hibbing on a weekend where they did grocery shopping. If we were lucky they would park in front of Sammy's on our way home. Then they sent me in to order a large sausage pizza. I would stand at the counter and wait for it, watching the staff spin dough, ladle on sauce, dab on sausage, and slap on cheese. When our pizza was done, I would pay and carry it out to the car. I held the warm, aromatic paper package on my lap for 13 miles until we got home. But we couldn't eat it yet. Mom would say, "Let's warm it up in the oven." It was a long wait for a little girl. Fifty years later I have eaten pizza in many different states, but I ALWAYS SAY, "It's not as good as SAMMY'S."

I always had the job of holding it on my lap while my dad drove. Before we got home we had always ripped back the paper and ate a few "edge" slices and hope that mom wouldn't notice. The main window faced out overlooking Central Ave. and each time I walked by I would stop and place my nose to the window and point to either the cheese or the pepperoni and everytime without exception I would be invited in for a handful of cheese or pepperoni. I will never forget the friendliness of the people at Sammys. And I will never forget the smells as I would walk by. This was 50 years ago and I still enjoy a Sammys pizza everytime I get to town. When my oldest sister got her first job, she'd bring home Sammy's Pizza from your downtown place. We could hardly contain ourselves when she got her paycheck! That was in 1963! As we got older, my three sisters moved to California, and I was the lucky one who stayed! My family and I can get Sammy's anytime we want. Well, we TRULY have made it not only a "Family Tradition", but a generational one, also. My 94 year old mother LOVES your pepperoni pizza, as I do. When my sisters come back to visit each year, one of THE first questions they ask is, "OK. When can everyone get together for Sammy's?" So we all check our schedules, and we are set to go. Downtown Sammy's is where we all gather. We miss my dad, Walt, at the gatherings. He passed in 2003, and though a full blooded Finlander, was ready to dig in to Sammy's sausage pizza! My wife, Laurie, daughters, son-in-law, and my 2 1/2 year old grandson all make the trip each time, too. When my grandson see the waitress coming with the family size pizzas, he yells at the top of his lungs, "PIZZA!" and afetr she sets them down, he always says "Thankyou!". Manners first, stuffing our faces second. We truly have made many years of memories around the table at Sammy's. Always a friendly crew, top of the line pizza creators, and warm surroundings, make this family want to continue the tradition for many HUNGRY years to come. From a 94 year old, down to a toddler, we all enjoy the food and the laughs when we enter the door! Thanks, Sammy's, for the many memories.

As were we preparing to leave around 5:00 we received a call from the Edgewater hotel that around 300 people were being put up for the night at the airport had shut down. We quickly took a vote and decided to stay open, inspite of the power being out. We brougth out the the old rolling pins and made Pizzas by candlelight for the next 3 hrs.

My family and I have been going to Sammy's Pizza in Cloquet for many years driving 50 miles roundtrip every Tuesday since my son was about 11 years old, he's now nearly 18! Each Tuesday night we would go to the buffet and get the child's price for my son and the adult price for my husband and I; this went on for nearly 3 years even when my son past 12 years old for the child's price. The waitress always said "two adults and a child?" All of a sudden he sprouted up in height and couldn't pass for 12 any longer at age 14...feeling guilty... I had to tell the waitress he was 14. We continued to go to the buffet even having to pay the higher price for an adult because it was so worth it! We laugh and joke about my son being 6ft 3" tall now every Tuesday when we go to Sammy's wondering if he can still pass for 12 years old. Truthfully I think the waitress just gave us a break on the child's price for my son because she knew how much we loved going to Sammy's Pizza! My son used to ride in the car with us and now he drives us there 6 years later! And, for nearly 6 years Mike in Cloquet always would make sure he prepared us a "House Special" when he saw us come in the door on Tuesday night for the buffet, he knew that was my favorite!

Ever wonder why Sammy's Pizza Parlors in Duluth are always busy and crowded? Even when other pizza places are offering low, low prices and discounts? I know. I've known for over 50 years. When I was a kid in West Duluth my older sister brought home s small half pepperoni and half Sammy's Special that the whole family got to try. We were hooked. My Sammy's story is that (while the price has gone up a tad from the $1.25 for a small) the taste of my favorite - Sammy's Special is exactly the same as it was in 1959. And that taste is great. It has indeed, been a family tradition.

First, after watching us struggle with a squirmy child, one of the staff came to our rescue with a high chair...one word on the high chair...it was sparkling...it was so clean! Which all moms know isn't the case at most restaurants. Then the staff continued to help me pick a meal off the menu to accommodate my daughter's needs...the staff returned promptly with a little fun plate consisting of shredded cheese, turkey and one meatball. We were able to relax and enjoy our pizza! I was so impressed with the staff and how they made sure we were comfortable...I especially was impressed because the staff was younger! How refreshing! I will continue to be a loyal customer to Sammy's pizza Lakeside! Thank you!

My dad, Dale Birkeland, grew up in Hibbing and used to hang out at Sammy's with Sammy himself. To this day we never visit Hibbing, Duluth and Coon Rapids without making a stop for the unique Kosher Salami Thin Crust!
For my dad's birthday (for the last 5 years) we've had a Sammy's pizza given to him (some spelling "Happy Birthday" in anchovies!) and he says it's his favorite way to celebrate! We'll be Sammy's fans forever!!!

We spend many weekends running up to our cabin in Ely. We NEVER pass through Cloquet without stopping at Sammy's--call ahead and pick it up on the way through. Sausage and mushroom and my boys are happy. Been doing this for years and hopefully years to come. Also, whenever we are in Duluth for hockey, etc. we always order Sammy's at our hotel at least one night. You guys are the best!

My husband and I grew up with Sammy's pizza back in 1954 in Hibbing. My husband used to play cards with Sammy. Until that time we didn't know about pizza so everyone ordered cheese pizza. Every Friday night. We both moved to Mpls, found Gertie Hengle in St. Paul and used to go there. You can image how happy we were when a Sammy's came to Coon Rapids and now in Brooklyn Park. Our kids were born in Mpls. but every time we went to Hibbing, they wanted Sammy's pizza. Now that has become their favorite pizza, none like it they say. Almost every Friday night we order a Sammy's to this day. Keep up the good work. A quality product.

Ditto the Friday nite pizza story!! Gary and I grew up in Duluth and went to the downtown Sammy's every Friday night during our senior year at Central High after football and hockey games. We continued the tradition after we were married. We moved to Mpls in 1972 and really missed our Friday night Sammy's pizzas. We occasionally visited the Coon Rapids location but it wasn't close enough to home. Needless to say we were thrilled when you opened in Brooklyn Park. We have been Friday night regulars since it opened. Nick and his crew take great care of us and usually know what we want before we order:) My only disappointment came on my birthday when Nick wouldn't sing to me...NEXT YEAR was his promise. I'm holding him to it. See you Friday!! Sammy's Pizza lovers since the 50's!

My first experience at Sammy's was in the early 1960s, when I was ice skating at Wheeler Field with kids from school. Someone's parents took us to Sammy's in West Duluth, and I was hooked. It's always a favorite with my family. When one of my sisters moved to Florida years ago, she said the thing she missed most was Sammy's Pizza. These days she lives in rural Wisconsin but any time she visits Duluth, she stops at Sammy's. There's nothing like it anywhere. I am very happy to live a mere 4 blocks away from the Lakeside location. (All this and heaven, too!)

Sammy's pizza is my favorite, always had it for my birthday and every chance I got. until one day I couldn't swallow, come to find out I had cancer, and for months I couldn't eat. I had to use a feeding tube. But when the 5 months was over. My husband said where do you want to go for lunch? I said, I want to go have Sammy's Pizza, and we did. It is still my favorite, and I have it every chance I get. This is my Sammy's story.

This was in the late 70's and early 80's starting when I was about 14 years old. Great memories. I fell in love with your pizza and I still love it and try to get there as often as I can. Back in my final two years of college in Eau Claire, I lived downtown right across from Sammy's...and instantly fell in love with their fabulous "pizza pie." Much to my surprise, over 25 years later, I happened to walk into the Sammy's location in Brooklyn Park and had immediate flashbacks to college. "Yes"...the pizza recipe was still the same!!! I now get my weekly "fix" of Sammy's during lunch breaks at work and love it. Sammy's is simply the BEST! Thanks, Mark.

After moving to the Cities in the '70s, we really missed Sammy's so trips home always included Sammy's pizza nights. Our last stop when leaving town on the way home was to pick up some frozen pizzas to take home and a cooked one to eat in the car! The extended family even had Sammy's Pizza delivered to a Superior Motel the night before Mom's funeral, knowing she would have loved that. Now our whole family drives from Bloomington, Lake Elmo, and Chaska to meet at Sammy's in Coon Rapids to continue the love affair we all have with Sammy's. Luisa has welcomed all the Daniels with open arms and listened to our Sammy's stories over and over. We love Sammy's and would welcome a restaurant in our area!

My Mother started taking me into Sammy’s in Hibbing in 1957 when I was 13. In high school after going to 'teenage' for dancing on Friday night at the memorial building, Sammy’s was the place to go. I bought a lot of pizzas from Grandpa Sam back then. Years later, when Sam's Sons, Jeff and Greg, ran the business, I was one of their best customers. Now living in Coon Rapids, 2 miles from Sammy’s, I am buying my pizzas from Grandpa Sam's grandchildren. I've been eating those pies for over 50 years and nothing has changed. Still the same, still the best.

My sister and I were both from Superior. Now I live in Minong and she lives in Indianapolis. One day on a phone conversation my sister said " boy am I craving a Sammy's Pizza.” It was just before New Years Eve. I drove to town and got there right at 4 p.m. and asked for them to hurry and make me a pizza (not baked ) and drove to the post office. I sent the pizza over night delivery. I called her and told her she needed to stay home that day as I had something coming. Boy was she surprised when she got it. Of course her and her husband enjoyed their New Years Eve dinner. We still talk about the surprise dinner and laugh.

I am from Rapid City South Dakota. I took a construction job at Minot AFB in 2005. This was my first trip ever that far north. I found Minot to be very unique and I loved the area and people. My work crew and I decided to eat out and friends we made said we had to try Sammy's. At first I was a little skeptical upon entering the antiquated restaurant. However, once seated, the menu looked rather good. We started with some of the wings, and to this day, those are still the best wings you can get. They were crispy, spicy, well cooked, and delicious. We then went for the Bert's Best. And in all my life, to this moment, that pizza is the best. Bert's Best is the BEST. I have spent several occasions eating at Sammy's with an array of friends, and every time it has been a good positive experience, and every time the food is fantastic. My brother and I always discuss what the secret it to Bert's Best. I think the flavor secret, whether it is some sort of mystical mojo to a simple flavoring formula, is the best part of Sammy's. I wished there was a Sammy's everywhere. As it is, for me and my brother, whenever, we venture to Minot to revisit our friends we made there, Sammy's is the automatic first stop.

My brother and his wife live on the outer banks of North Carolina. When they come here to visit they always make sure we have dinner at least once at Sammy's. They LOVE the pizza. The last time they were in town to visit they made it to Sammy's for pizza and then had planned to stop before they left town and pick up some pizza to take back to North Carolina with them. Their schedule was so hectic that they didn't get a chance to pick up the pizzas to take home with them. As they were driving out of town they noticed a billboard that advertised a Sammy's Pizza in Cumberland, Wisconsin. The day was saved. They were so happy. They stopped there and picked up pizzas to take home with them. We are an Italian family and we love your pizza. God Bless you and your family.

Olli has been enjoying Sammy's Pizza since he was a child back in the 60's, but a new tradition was started on April 25, 1981. That was the day Olli and Kathy were married. Returning from the wedding reception, on the way to their Honeymoon suite, Olli called the downtown Sammy's Pizza and had a "House Special" created, they stopped by and picked it up on the way to the suite. Ever since then, every wedding anniversary (all 27 of them) is celebrated with a Sammy's "House Special" from one of the many local Sammy's restaurants in Hibbing, Cloquet or Duluth. Olli, Kathy and their entire family have been enjoying Sammy's Pizza for many decades and often join together at one of the Sammy's to celebrate various occasions throughout the year.

We started our own family tradition a few years ago by going to Sammy's in Cloquet after church every Sunday. Evan and the staff are always fun to visit with. Recently the waitress told us Evan had to run to the store before we got there to restock the post-meal sucker bin because our four young boys enjoy that part of the visit so much. When asked what they want to do when they grow up, be a "Sammy's worker" is on the top of the list!
The Crew is my favorite pizza so when we come in I like to say "how's the Sammy's Crew today?" A few minutes later there will be a Crew on the buffet.
"Cheesy", I know, but it works every time!

When I first moved to Winona, MN, it was the first time I moved out on my own. I worked late nights at the local station, plugging in commercials for the Twins' games and doing the local weather reports. I wanted to try some local flavor, and my then-fiance/now-wife brought me a calzone from Sammy's.
I was hooked from first bite.
Two years later, married, we moved up to Coon Rapids/Blaine. I was thrilled to see a Sammy's up here, but saddened when I saw it did not carry the calzones I loved. Saddened until I tried the pizza. Again, hooked at first bite.
Now that we are parents, Sammy's is part of our one-Friday-a-month date: a movie at the Showplace, and pizza at Sammy's. Doesn't get much better than that!

The best memory of growing up was looking forward to Fri. night, because that was Sammy's pizza night. It all started when I was about 5 and my dad owned a business in Duluth and had to close shop late Fri. nights so he would call Lakeside Sammy's every Fri. and ordered a family size house special. This was such a routine thing that he would not even have to call he would just show up at 10:15 and they would say here is your pizza Jim Proudlock, if he was a minute late they would call him to make sure it was still fri. night family pizza night. It was such a treat because I got to stay up late and that was the only time I got to eat in my parents bed. Even when I got older, we still continued the tradition. I remember coming home from college and having my fri. night house Sammy's Pizza. Now I am married and live in Esko and my husband and I would like to continue the family tradition with our son. We hope that they will get to know our name and pizza order in Cloquet. That for the great pizza and a memory that will continue and last a life time.

I've never had anything like it anywhere else. I've missed it terribly through the years, although I did get back to Duluth a few times and it was always just as good as I remembered.
